VOTER INFORMATION
ELECTION UPDATES BEGINNING 2024
In the last State election held in November of 2022, Michigan electors voted to approve proposal 2022-2. With that new law, there will be some changes in the voting process for Federal and State elections in the future. View the updates in the dropdown tabs below.
The biggest new change allows for early voting for 9 consecutive days prior to Election Day. Early Voting is only required for Federal and State elections. This is in addition to Absentee Voting, so there are now three ways to vote in a Federal or State election. You may vote by Absentee Ballot, during the 9 Days of Early Voting, or at our precinct on Election Day.
*Early Voting will not be available for special elections for the townships, counties or schools.
*Early Voting will be available for the Presidential Primary to be held on February 27, 2024.
*Early voting will not take place at the Riverton Township Hall. It will be held at the Mason County District Library in Scottville.
All qualified electors have the right to mark a ballot and deposit the ballot in the tabulator beginning the second Saturday before an election and ending the Sunday before the election. Early voting will be available at the Scottville Branch of the Mason County District Library, 204 E. State St., Scottville, MI 49454. Early Voting will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each of the nine days.
The new list will be called the Permanent Ballot List. If you choose to be on the Permanent Ballot List, you will automatically be sent a ballot for all elections in the future, eliminating the application process. Anyone can apply to be on the Permanent Ballot list by visiting Michigan.gov/vote or by obtaining a new application from the Township Clerk. If you have any questions, please contact Riverton Township Clerk, Cindy Gerbers at [email protected] or 231-425-7518.
